MICROALGAE EXTRACTS FOR LOW-IMPACT NEXT GENERATION FOOD
Microalgae are standing as the food ingredients of the future due to their functional, sustainable & beneficial characteristics that they come with. Having joined forces with some of the most innovative EIT – Food member companies from Sweden, France, Slovenia, Spain & Greece, during our 2-year MAEL Project we aim at developing the next-generation of healthy, safe & sustainable food end-products using alternative proteins, healthy oils and natural pigments coming from microalgae. Our project’s initiatives cover the entire manufacturing process from animal-free raw materials to plant-based fish, meat and eggs
Mael develops complete protein profile functional ingredients, which enhance taste, smell, shelf life, food safety and overall performance of plant-based food, food supplements, personalised nutrition & pharma products.
Mael project proposes the valida on food, oil & pigment isolates coming from microalgae. This, in turn, will lead to at least 30 new plant-based premium, healthy & transparently produced end food products (plant-based burgers, steaks, chickens, salmon, fish, egg, snacks, pasta, cookies) launched with EIT Food support – all free of salt, sugars, unsaturated fatty acids.
